Deathpact is an electronic music project that emerged in 2018, initially gaining mainstream attention through a collaboration with Rezz on the track "Life & Death" from her album "Certain Kind of Magic." The project is characterized by a mysterious persona who appears in public wearing a distinctive black mask and hood. Deathpact's innovative marketing approach combines music releases with an elaborate ARG (augmented reality game) system called "xOS," which began with cryptic campaigns in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Their dedicated Discord community, known as "Deathcord," plays an integral role in unlocking new content through collaborative problem-solving of complex puzzles, encrypted messages, and physical treasure hunts called "Deathdrops." The project's discography includes CIPHER ONE EP, CIPHER TWO, and Departure (released on mau5trap), followed by their extended work Split // Personality, which features collaborations with notable artists such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Claude VonStroke, and Code Orange. Their live performances, termed "materializations," began in 2019 with appearances at festivals like Shambhala Music Festival and Digital Mirage, later expanding to events such as Snowglobe Music Festival for their US debut. The project has also collaborated with prominent artists including Zeds Dead, 1788-L, and Odesza, while maintaining their mysterious identity as a fundamental aspect of their artistic presentation.
