Joost Klein (born 10 November 10 1997 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands) is a Dutch rapper and electro / gabber musician. He has released music as Joost, but also under his full name, Joost Klein. His 'secret' musical alter egos include jailbreak iphone now and internetcafe 247.
Joost did not have an easy start in life. At just twelve years old, he lost his father to cancer. Less than a year later, his mother passed away from cardiac arrest. Orphaned at a young age, Joost turned to the internet and launched a YouTube channel called EenhoornJoost.
Labeling Joost is no simple task. His videos are surreal, unpredictable, and often absurd. A far cry from the typical family-friendly vloggers. His sketches frequently lean into humor; one example shows him drunkenly celebrating his birthday with friends. But there’s more beneath the surface. He also made a documentary in which he returns to Friesland, the province he grew up in, and speaks candidly about losing both his parents as a child.
Joost didn’t limit himself to YouTube. He soon began making music, starting with a few tracks on YouTube and SoundCloud. This led to the release of his debut EP Dakloos, featuring popular songs like 'Dakloos' and 'Zelfgemaakt'. A year later, his mixtape Scandinavian Boy marked his breakthrough, with the title track becoming his biggest hit.
His rise in the music scene was also influenced by fellow artist Donnie. The duo first collaborated on the track 'René Froger' and later joined forces on the album M Van Marketing. Songs like 'Parmezaan & Linkerbaan' became fan favorites.
Six months later, Joost released his first full album: Albino. This project included earlier releases such as 'Ome Robert' and 'Meeuw', along with a collection of new tracks. The title song 'Albino' became the standout hit, followed closely by 'Joost Klein' and 'Bus Gemist' (featuring Mick Spek).
Over the following years, Joost continued to release new projects, including 1983 (named after his brother's birth year), Joost Klein 7, Albino Sports, Vol. 1 (with Brunzyn) and Fryslân.
In 2023, it was announced that Joost would represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö. After successfully reaching the finals, he was disqualified due to a backstage incident where he allegedly made a "threatening movement" towards a camerawoman, violating the contest's rules for a safe working environment.
Following Eurovision, Joost released a string of singles — 'Luchtballon', 'The Bird Song', 'TRAFIK!' (featuring Käärijä), 'Filthy Dog' and 'Why Not???'. Several of these tracks appear on his latest album Unity, released in February 2025. The album features collaborations such as 'United By Music' (with Tommy Cash), '1' (with Scooter), and 'Gabberland', as well as his viral 2023 hit 'Friesenjung'.
After the album he released various tracks and EPs under the names jailbreak iphone now and internetcafe 247. He also created Instagram profiles for these pseudonyms.
On New Year's Day 2026 he released the album Kleinkunst, which features artists like horsegiirL, Vieze Asbak, Mark Forsterand his alter egos jailbreak iphone now and internetcafe247. He also announced a world tour for summer 2026 including two shows at Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam and a gig at the Coachella Festival.
